Yamaha to launch the R3 on 11th August at the Buddh International Circuit
Hip hip hooray to all the Yamaha fans out there because the company has revealed that they will be launching the new YZF-R3 sports bike in India on 11th August at the Buddh International Circuit. After making its debut in international markets nearly a year back, India will finally be getting the much appreciated offering from Yamaha. Based on the R25, the R3 is basically the same bike on the visual front, but gets an engine with higher displacement instead.
Though many were expecting the R25 to be launched in our country, the R3 really seems to be the more sensible option of the two because we do not have a similar tax structure as Indonesia, where motorcycles with engines more than 250cc engine capacities attract more taxes.
The Yamaha R3 has a tubular diamond frame, with the overall weight of 169 kgs being uniformly distributed by a ratio of 50:50. The motorcycle will go head on with the Kawasaki Ninja 300, KTM RC 390, Hyosung GT250R and others. The R3 gets its power from a 321cc twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled, fuel injected engine that develops 42 PS of power at 10,750 RPM and 29.6 Nm of torque at 9000 RPM. The engine comes paired to a 6-speed gearbox and the front and rear suspension features telescopic forks and a mono shock setup respectively.
Though disc brakes will be available at the front and the rear, we really hope Yamaha gives ABS as standard on the bike as well. The Yamaha R3 will continue to be produced in Indonesia and the new motorcycle will be brought into our country through CKD kits. This means that the R3 will not be priced as competitively as the KTM RC 390 and will more likely be priced in range of the Kawasaki Ninja 300. Prices of the R3 are expected to start around Rs. 3 lakhs (ex-showroom).
