Yamaha R15 S launched in India at Rs. 1.14 lakhs
The R15 V2.0 has been a very good product for Yamaha in India. The model has been constantly bringing in good sales numbers thanks to its impressive sporty styling and aggressive riding characteristics that has caught the frenzy of many customers in our country. However, Yamaha received a good amount of flak for the V2.0 as well because the R15 V1.0 had many plus points of its own that was not carried over to the newer model.
But the company has worked on all of this and has just launched the Yamaha R15 S in our country at a price tag of Rs. 1.14 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The pricing is not very different from the current V2.0 model and this provides customers an option to choose from the two R15s. What is different in the R15 S? Well, the new model carries over many design elements from the older model that was retailed in the country from 2008 to 2011.
The rear end is the same as the pre-facelift model of the R15, which means that the seat is now a long single piece. The tail section is not so aggressively racked and the taillights and grab handles are carried over from the older model. This makes the new model a more comfortable bike for the pillion and a more tourer friendly bike as well. It has a dry weight of 131 kgs, which in fact is 5 kgs lesser than the R15 V2.0. The Yamaha R15 S is offered with new colour schemes and body decals to differentiate it from its sibling.
The R15 S remains same as the V2.0 on the mechanical domain deriving power from the existing 149cc, fuel-injected single-cylinder engine that produces 17 PS of power, 15 Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox.
