Ditching the 7-seater layout from the standard versions of the XC90 SUV, Volvo has introduced this trim with an attractive looking 4-seater layout. While the rear passengers can access the massage and ventilation functions, they can even relax easily with the increased rear legroom offered. Going further, one can even operate the infotainment system with the help of a retractable touch screen provided. The Volvo XC90 Excellence Edition boasts of other attractive features like heated and cooled cup holders, a small refrigerator, folding tables, crystal glasses and even integrated ionic air cleaner which keeps the cabin air fresh and lively. There is a thin screen, which separates the boot space from the remaining cabin. The feature list doesn`t stop here! There is extra noise insulation, and the SUV gets Pirelli Noise Cancelling tyres.

The Swedish carmaker, Volvo, has gone ahead making the Excellence trim look different from the rest of the variants by including the attractive chrome trim elements on its B and C- pillars.

Abroad, the Swedish company is going to sell the XC90 Excellence trim in different engine options– 316 BHP T6 petrol engine, 225 BHP D5 diesel engines and the 314 BHP T8 plug-in hybrid versions. AWD will be offered on all these powertrain options. As per speculations, the Volvo XC90 Excellence Trim is going to roll out on the red carpet by the year-end.

In the Indian market, Volvo is going to launch the standard version of the XC90 in September 2015 by powering the SUV with the 225 BHP 2.0-litre 4-cylinder twin-turbo diesel engine. Similar to the overseas spec, the Indian spec XC90 will also be offered with 4WD via an 8-speed automatic transmission. A little birdie tells us that Volvo India will launch the T8 plug-in hybrid variant with a Diesel-electric setup, which will be powered by a 318BHP 4-cylider, Drive E engine churning out 80.04 BHP of power.

Volvo will have to price the Indian-spec model very competitively to fight it out with the Audi Q7 and the BMW X5. Though Volvo currently has no plans to launch the Excellence trim for the Indian market, but being the flagship model of the Swedish carmaker, the luxury SUV provides the best rear experience in this segment. Volvo with these variants wants to demonstrate its prowess in the luxury car segment. Mercedes, BMW and Audi better watch out!
