When it comes to talking about premium car manufacturers present in India, the common brands that come to our mind include the likes of Mercedes, Audi, BMW and Jaguar. All of the aforementioned companies are well settled in the Indian automotive market and are competing with each other to get the most number of sales as possible. However, Volvo is another such premium car manufacturer in India that has been left out from the likes of the more favoured ones. This is mainly due to the fact that Volvo does not retail many vehicles in India. But, its cars are very premium and are known all over the world for the safety features that all vehicles from the same stable provide. One of the most important vehicles for the Swedish manufacturer is the XC90 SUV.

Volvo has just launched the new generation XC90 in India at a price tag of Rs. 64.9 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the base Momentum variant and at Rs. 77.9 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) for the top Inscription variant. The SUV is available for pre-ordering today onwards, but deliveries for the same will only begin from September.
The XC90 premium SUV has been tagged as the most technologically rich, safest and luxurious Volvo vehicle till now (which is quite something). Based on the Volvo’s latest Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), the XC90’s development cost the company a huge $11 billion.

Coming to the design changes of the new XC90, one of the main features that grab everyone’s immediate attention is its hammer shaped LED DRLs and a big front grille. Side profile of the vehicle more or less resembles the previous version, but the rear looks much more mature and graceful than before. The two fat exhaust pipes on each side looks very sporty and the long tail lights look very elegant as well.

Mechanically, the Volvo XC90 is powered by a 1969 cc, twin-turbo, 4-cylinder petrol engine which produces 225 HP and 470 Nm of torque, with power being sent to all four wheels with the help of an 8-speed automatic transmission. The SUV can reach an electronically limited top speed of 230 km/hr and runs on an air suspension that provides superior ride comfort, conceptualizing the whole term uniquely as well.

The interiors on the other hand are very spacious and premium, featuring the world’s first air-ventilated sub-woofer with 19 Bowers & Wilkins speakers giving out 1400 watts of head banging noise.
