Volvo V40 Hatchback India Launch expected around Mid-2015
Volvo, the Swedish luxury carmaker has been turning up the heat in the country slowly and gradually. With new models being readied for the Indian market launch scheduled for 2015, the company is looking ahead to expand its product range with the entry of premium hatchbacks in India.
Volvo sells some of the best looking cars in its lineup in the name of the V40 Cross Country, S60 and S80 sedan, XC60 SUV and the current generation XC90 in the country. In order to achieve its aggressive sales figure set for the year, Volvo will introduce the standard version of the V40 hatchback in the market to compete strongly against the likes of the recently updated Mercedes- A Class and the Beemer 1-Series.
Initially, the V40 hatchback model will be launched with the D3 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel mill producing 152 PS of power along with 360 Nm of torque. Having a fuel efficiency figure marked at 16.8 km/l (ARAI certified), it is expected that the hatchback model will deliver even impressive figures. Not only this, the company is also planning to launch the hatchback with a petrol motor at a later stage. The Volvo V40 will be brought to India via the CBU route so we can expect the price tag to be little heavy on pocket.
Globally, the V40 hatchback is known as the more affordable version of the V40 Cross Country, the overall structure and platform is similar to that of V40 hatchback, but both the vehicles come with different exterior styling. While the former looks aggressive with guards, side body cladding, larger alloy wheels, roof-rails, the latter hatchback model misses out on these interesting features.
The upcoming V40 hatchback is equipped with split rear seats, which can be folded to accommodate larger luggage. It is also equipped with different front and rear bumpers, which is without sump guards, bordered by newly designed horizontal day-time running lights.
The Volvo V40 will be offered in the price range of Rs.25-30 lakhs (Ex-showroom), and is likely to launch in India in April 2015. Apart from this, the Swedish carmaker has also planned to bring the new XC90 SUV to our market around September this year. The SUV is expected to be offered in two trims and hence, will be priced competitively. The company will start taking pre-orders for the same around May this year.
Gearing up slowly and steadily in the Indian market, Volvo has been taking the necessary initiative to create a strong brand image in the country. It has opened an all-new sales outlet in Mumbai recently and a new service center at Saki-Naka in Mumbai. It is also planning to open another sales outlet in South Mumbai at a later stage this year.
