Volkswagen unveils next generation Passat

The eighth generation Passat has been officially unveiled by Volkswagen at its design centre in Germany. The Passat will be showcased at the Paris Motor show in October this year. The Passat has been a successful model across the globe and has made the sales charts of VW soar with 23 million sales worldwide.

The Passat features new styling, technologies and new engines. The new Passat will be lighter by 85 kgs compared to the outgoing car and fuel efficiency figures have been improved by 20 percent. The new model is 2mm shorter than the previous model, but the wheelbase is 79mm longer at 2, 791 mm. This makes the new model roomier and offers more space on the inside.

The styling on the Passat is sharper with a new chrome grille, slimmer headlights, a more elegant design and a heavily raked up windscreen. The new Passat looks more sporty and subtle at the same time. The rear is beautifully crafted with twin exhaust pipes and a shoulder line that is much broader. This gives the car a more premium and luxurious look.

On the inside the Passat is equipped with a host of equipment and well appointed interiors. The new Passat comes with a 360 degree camera, a 12.3 inch TFT display, latest generation of park assist (which includes options for the car to park itself) and a modular infotainment system. The Passat will be offered with a 2.0 litre bi-turbo diesel engine which pumps out 240PS and delivers a heart thumping 500Nm of torque right from 1,750rpm. This engine will be mated to a seven speed DSG transmission and a 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system. A plug-in hybrid model would also be available which offers a range of 960Km on a single tank of fuel.

UK Pricing and other details of the car would be announced during the Paris Motor Show. We expect the new Passat to go on sale in India during the second half of 2015.
