Volkswagen Polo GTI caught testing; launching soon?
At present the only hot hatches available in the Indian market are the Polo GT TSI and TDI models. With the success of these models VW India is planning to launch another mean machine to quench the thirst of speed aficionadas. The German auto giant plans to introduce the Polo GTI in the country and the same has been caught testing recently in Pune.
Powering the Polo GTI is a 1.8 litre TSI motor which also happens to power the Skoda Octavia. Under the hood of the GTI this motor produces a massive 190 BHP and comes mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. We expect the torque to be restricted to 250 Nm while the car can do the 0 – 100 km/hr dash in just 6.7 seconds which is quite good. While the Polo GT models get subtle changes when compared to their counterparts, the polo GTI gets some prominent changes to give it a distinct look.
The car will feature a unique front and rear bumper, new grille, stylish looking alloys, and a few more changes which will make the Polo GTI stand out in a group of Polos. The GTI will have a top speed of 250 km/hr which is right up there with the luxury sedans. The good thing however is that it might be the most reasonably priced proper hot hatch available in the country. Fiat India will also be launching the Abarth performance brand in India which will give buyers a tough time choosing between these cars. We expect VW India to price the car around Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom), which is quite expensive considering the fact that it`s still a hatchback, but what you get is a high performance car which is a hoot to drive.
