2014 polo

We`ve been hearing a lot of buzz about the 2014 VW Polo lately, and the wait is finally over. VW has gone ahead and launched the 2014 facelifted Polo in India. Let`s take a look at what`s changed on the 2014 facelifted Polo.

Exteriors: The new Polo gets exterior styling updates in the form of a new grille at the front which features black slats and very minimal chrome detailing, new design headlamps with black finish, heat insulating glass for side and rear windows and a set of new 15” ‘TOSA’ alloy wheels. At the rear the 2014 Polo gets news tail lamps.

Interiors: The interiors have definitely been spruced to provide better ambience and more features which is a big welcome. The new steering wheel is a 3 spoke flat bottom unit. The centre console is now finished in brushed silver. The instrument cluster gets a new font style and white illumination instead of the red colour seen on the outgoing model. Bluetooth connectivity and voice command operation is an added welcome. VW has provided a dead pedal on the driver`s side for added comfort during long journeys. Volkswagen is offering dual airbags as standard across all variants, while the ABS feature is reserved for the top model.

Engines: The major change is under the hood and that’s what matters the most. The 2014 Polo comes with an all new 1.5 litre diesel engine with variable geometry turbo (VGT) and is available in two states of tune – 90PS/230 Nm and 105PS/250 Nm. The new engines offer better tractability and performance. The 2014 Polo GT TDI will be powered by the 105PS diesel motor. The older 1.2 TDI version has been discontinued. The Polo from the beginning deserved better engines and VW should have done the engine upgrade a year earlier, that`s what we feel. The petrol Polo retains the same 1.2 litre 3-cylinder unit which produces 75PS of power and 110 Nm of torque. All the models are mated to a five speed manual transmission. The ARAI certified ratings for the 1.5 litre oil burner are 20.14kmpl.

The Polo TSI and GT TDI will be launched by the end of August. The 2014 face lifted Polo will compete with the likes of Hyundai i20, Maruti Swift and the Italian bred Fiat Punto. The Polo petrol and diesel models will be available in three trims namely – Trendline, Comfortline and Highline.
