Volkswagen Ameo TVC launched

Being the biggest automotive group in the world, Volkswagen knows that for a product to become successful, appropriate and aggressive marketing is a must. And in a world where everyone is lurching forward to grasp out-of-the-way advertisement ideas, it has become immensely important that the companies develop an advertisement that leaves a lasting impression on the viewer.

In order to do exactly what we are talking about, Volkswagen India have recently released a new TVC for their latest compact sedan offering, the VW Ameo. This new Volkswagen Ameo TVC is being touted as one of the best advertisements ever made by the automaker. The new Ameo ad revolves around the bittersweet relationship between an Indian father and his son. Since we Indians love our father, and are still afraid of his anger and scolding, the Ameo TVC manages to touch a nerve with the heart of every father-son duo in the Indian middle-class society. It also maturely showcases how a father feels that his son is a good-for-nothing spoiled creature, and then shows the same father feeling proud when his son acts likes a grown-up man.

In the said TVC, the VW Ameo compact sedan presents itself to be symbol of acceptance across generations. It has got the features and modern tech wizardry of the new generation, while its conservative design and brand equity even satisfies the matured customers.

Volkswagen Ameo Price in India

Volkswagen has started a price war of sorts by launching the Ameo compact sedan at an extremely aggressive price tag. At prices starting from just Rs 5.24 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), the Ameo sits bang in the middle of the two most successful compact sedans India has ever seen, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire and the Honda Amaze. This pricing was important for VW who doesn’t really enjoy the brand trust that its Japanese counterparts do.

But what took everyone for a surprise was the fact that Volkswagen decided to price the Ameo sedan lower than its smaller sibling, the Polo hatchback. This becomes even stranger if we take into account the fact that Ameo is based on the same platform that underpins the Polo hatch, also gets the same engine under its hood. We believe VW India can just not continue with this portfolio arrangement for a very long time. This would mean that the German automaker will either cut down prices of the Polo hatchback, or increase the introductory price tag of the Volkswagen Ameo sedan, once this new offering finds itself enough ground to sustain in the immensely popular and competitive market of compact sedans.

Volkswagen Ameo Variant wise pricing details for Delhi and Mumbai are as follows –

Variant Ex-Showroom, Delhi Ex-Showroom, Mumbai

Ameo 1.2L Comfortline Rs 5.99 lakh Rs 5.87 lakh

Volkswagen Ameo Specification

Volkswagen India has launched the Ameo compact sedan with only a 1.2-litre petrol engine. This might come as a strange strategy to many, but the automaker had its set of reasons behind eliminating a diesel option at the time of launch. Volkswagen has been stuck in a rut for the past one year due to the infamous Diesel-gate scandal. As a result, the company is revising its famous 1.5-litre TDI engine to make sure it is well within the emission limits. This revision of the TDI mill was delaying the launch of the Ameo sedan. The company though that a longer delay would die out the hype around the upcoming Volkswagen compact sedan. As a result, the automaker went ahead and launched the Ameo petrol first, while a Volkswagen Ameo diesel variant will be introduced at a later date this year.

Following are the specifications of the 1.2-litre three cylinder engine of the VW Ameo:

Engine 1.2-litre, 3-Cylinder MPI
Displacement 1198 cc
Power 74 hp @ 5,400 rpm
Torque 110 Nm @ 3,750 rpm
Gearbox 5-Speed manual
Fuel tank capacity 45 litres

Meanwhile, the diesel engine which will be launched with the Ameo later this year is reported to be more powerful as well as fuel efficient than the company’s outgoing mill. The new 1.5-litre TDI engine now develops 108 hp of power, as compared to the 103 hp that the Polo’s engine produces. In addition to a diesel engine, Volkswagen India will also provide a 7-Speed DSG automatic transmission option to the Ameo lineup, which will be available with the Comfortline and Highline variants.

Volkswagen Ameo Mileage

Being offered with only a petrol engine currently, the Volkswagen Ameo doesn’t really score high on the fuel economy factor. With an ARAI rated figure of 17.83 kmpl, the VW Ameo mileage can be best termed as satisfactory.
On the other hand, the Ameo diesel variant will likely deliver a fuel economy figure of around 22 kmpl, once it is launched later this year.

Volkswagen Ameo Exteriors

The Ameo is built on the same platform as that of the Polo hatch, and it thus shares various design cues from this hatchback sibling. The front face is identical to the Polo, right until the B-Pillar. After that, Volkswagen designers have managed to give the Polo subtle changes in order to house a third box boot in the Ameo. As a result, the VW compact sedan gets longer rear doors, a more steeply raking rear windscreen, and a sloping roofline. The boot has been integrated brilliantly, but the car still manages to look a bit disproportionate, especially when seen from the sides. This is primarily because of the longer hood, and the relatively shorted boot. But once you move to the rear, things fall back in shape. The angular boot lid houses L-shaped taillights and a number plate housing.

Volkswagen Ameo Interiors

The Volkswagen Ameo is packed with segment leading features.

Like the exteriors, the Volkswagen Ameo interiors too look a lot similar to the Polo hatch. Laid out in dual-tone theme, the dashboard gets a blacked out upper part, while the lower trim is detailed in beige. This makes the cabin look more airy, and a lot plusher. Fit and finish is top-notch, and the features on offer too won’t feel you jealous of not buying any other competitor in the segment. 2-DIN multimedia infotainment system, Bluetooth connectivity, automatic climate control, 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel, and a rear air-con vent ensure that the Ameo caters to all the needs of its occupants.

Volkswagen Ameo Rivals

The Ameo is placed in an extremely competitive market segment. It will go head-on against competitors like the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, and Tata Zest. Moreover, the upcoming Tata Kite5 sedan too might be a potential threat to the Volkswagen Ameo.
