Upcoming Tata Kite to replace the Indigo CS – gets spied while testing
It is a well known fact that apart from preparing for the upcoming Zest based Bolt hatchback’s launch; Tata Motors is also bracing to introduce the Kite hatchback. The Indian car major has been long affected with poor sales and is now actively working to refresh its product portfolio to boost sales and improve its current market position. Tata Motors is busy developing a slew of new vehicles for its home market and one of these is the new Kite hatchback. It has been already reported that the Kite is being prepared to replace the famous Tata Indica, and will be a vital launch for the company.
Now, it has come to light that the Indian car maker has also started developing a compact sedan model based on the Kite hatchback. Kite CS was spotted by the spy snappers while the car was testing near Tata Motors’ production facility in Pimpri, Maharashtra. The Kite compact sedan can be very easily ascertained as the replacement model to another legendary Tata car, the Indigo eCS. The upcoming new Kite based compact sedan will be Tata Motors’ another new value for money car model and it will be placed below the new Zest compact sedan. The Kite based compact sedan is expected to launch towards the end of 2015 or in early 2016.
Both the hatchback and compact sedan version of the Kite are developed on the modified platform of the Tata Indica. The Kite compact sedan obviously shares design and parts with its hatchback counterpart, but is of course expected to come with its individual design elements. The spied test prototype was spotted featuring a rear design of a notchback though it was fully camouflaged. The Kite sedan will be an affordable sub-4 meter car and slightly smaller than that of the Zest compact sedan. The excise duty benefits that it will get will help it further in its expected aggressive pricing.
The upcoming Tata Kite compact sedan is expected to deliver a better ride as compared against the Indigo eCS. The new sedan is expected to be better equipped and have refined interiors with better fit and finish. The modified platform is also expected to offer better performance, better fuel efficiency, lower weight and lower NVH levels.
Under the hood, both the Kite cars are likely to be equipped with a new 1.2 litre petrol mill, while a new 1.05 litre diesel motor is going to power the diesel models. Tata Motors will also certainly offer the AMT gearbox options for both the petrol and diesel versions of the car apart from a standard 5 speed manual gearbox. Unlike the Zest, the Tata Kite compact sedan is not going to be feature-rich as it is going to be pitted as a more affordable car. The Kite based compact sedan is anticipated to beat the market competition with an under Rs. 4 lakh price tag.
