Upcoming SUVs in India 2015 – Report

The period between the months of July and November is considered to be the golden part for car manufacturers because it’s the festive season of India. This is the time when all car makers offer variety of discounts, additional features and special editions. Since the market is moving towards SUVs, let’s take a look to see what all SUVs are going to be launched in the festive period this year.

Renault has got the perfect formula for the Indian car market. After experiencing immense success with the Duster, the company’s new small car, the Kwid is also expected to get sales charts on fire. Its big dimensions will definitely take the small car market by storm and it also has many segment first features that make it a desirable option. Many car buyers from the higher segments may also consider the Kwid, such is its market image at the moment.

Rivals – Maruti Suzuki Alto, Hyundai Eon, Tata GenX Nano and Datsun Go.

The upcoming flagship SUV from Audi has grown both on the visual front and on the driving front as well. It has lost more than 320 kgs compared to its predecessor which makes it more fast, agile and nimble to drive. Though the second-generation Q7 is smaller, it has more interior room now. With elegant updates on the front and rear end, the SUV has gained a lot more brawn and this will make it one of the best SUVs money can buy.

Rivals – Mercedes GL-Class, BMW X5, BMW X6 and Volvo XC90.

The GLE-Class is nothing but the renamed ML-Class. The upcoming GLE will carry over Mercedes’ latest design language which seems to grab many eyeballs when rolling down the street. One of the best SUVs available in the segment, the vehicle will massively remain the same but will get a few updates here and there to make it look fresher, more efficient and more powerful as well.

Rivals – BMW X3, Audi Q5, Range Rover Evoque, Volvo XC60, Land Rover Freelander and Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The new Discovery Sport gets a significant makeover this time and is the first of the upcoming new range of Land Rovers. It will replace the aging Freelander 2 in the market and will be powered by a new 2.2-litre diesel engine in two states of tune – 50 PS/400 Nm and 190 PS/420 Nm. The major update of this SUV is that it takes its design language directly from its sibling, the Evoque which will definitely work it its favour.

Rivals – Mercedes GLE, BMW X3, Audi Q5 and Volvo XC60.

Tata Hexa SUV-crossover

The Hexa will be replacing the Aria in the market and retains much of the latter’s characteristics. But the Hexa is a new vehicle altogether and gets major updates in every department. The crossover is expected to be more sporty and stylish and will also get more premium interiors than the Aria. It will be powered by the same 2.2-litre diesel engine which will generate 157 PS of power and will come mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

Rivals – Toyota Innova, Mahindra XUV500 and Renault Lodgy.

Maruti Suzuki’s first model in the compact SUV segment is expected to be very competitive. The company’s most premium offering is expected to boast of many features both inside and outside the crossover. The S-Cross will get more powerful engines as compared to the ones seen on the Ciaz sedan and will be a mouth-watering proposition thanks to Maruti’s focus on fuel efficiency and after sales service.

Rivals – Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Nissan Terrano and Hyundai Creta.

Knowing Hyundai, the Creta is expected to give the well settled Renault Duster and Ford EcoSport a run for their money. Easily one of the best looking SUVs in the space, the Creta is also expected to boast of segment best features as well. The SUV will attract buyers from other segments as well and may even take the Korean company to new heights in the country. The Verna’s 1.6-litre petrol and diesel motors will be found on the Creta.

Rivals – Renault Duster, Ford EcoSport, Nissan Terrano and Maruti Suzuki S-Cross.

Chevrolet Trailblazer

The Chevrolet Trailblazer is GM’s second attempt at the respective SUV segment after the Captiva turned out to be a disappointment. The vehicle with its big dimensions might get buyers interested and it will be a worthy competitor as well. Engine options have not been revealed till now, but either the 2.8-litre engine with 200 PS of power or the 2.5-litre engine with 163 PS of power is expected to power the Trailblazer.

Rivals – Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Honda CR-V and Hyundai Santa Fe.

Pricing seems to be the major concern at the moment and the same will decide the very capable SUV’s fate in the Indian market.

It will be powered by two engines – a 2.2-litre and a 3.2-litre and will come with both manual and automatic transmissions. The superb looking vehicle will definitely give its rivals many sleepless nights.

One of the best-selling SUV from the Nashik based manufacturer, the next-generation Bolero is expected to become more stylish and modern than before. It will carry many of the Scorpio’s features and will cater to a much larger audience as compared to the current model. It is even based on the Scorpio’s platform and will most likely be powered by new three-cylinder turbo petrol and diesel engines.
