Upcoming Maruti Suzuki YRA speculated to get new 1.2 litre petrol motor
Indian car market leader, Maruti Suzuki is ready to unleash a storm on the Indian market with an armada of all new cars to grab some more market share and to reinstate its undisputed dominance. The Indo-Japanese car major has launched two new car models in India this year, namely the Celerio hatchback and the Ciaz sedan apart from many other facelift versions of its popular cars. Come 2015, and Maruti will launch an array of more new vehicles to beat the rising market competition.
We already know about many upcoming Maruti vehicle launches in the pipeline that include compact crossovers, debutant LCV and some more refreshes. However, ‘YRA’ is a new buzz that is revolving around the country’s largest car maker. The codenamed, YRA is going to be Maruti’s brand new premium hatchback model in India. If you ask that Maruti has the all-time bestseller Swift already, then what is the YRA for? The answer is that India has seen premium hatchback launches in the recent past, in front of which the very able Swift looks pretty outdated. Though Maruti has launched the all improved Swift facelift recently, it might not be sufficient in the face of stiff competition in the coming years. The upcoming Maruti Suzuki YRA will thus be a more premium new hatch to sit above the Swift.
The Maruti Suzuki YRA premium hatch will be a global model. The car is getting spotted pretty frequently, suggesting that hatch might launch quite soon. Innumerable sightings of the upcoming YRA have now started revealing speculated features of the hatchback. The YRA’s headlights are speculated to be similar to the Swift’s. Reports also claim that the YRA will be equipped with a newly developed 1,242cc VVT petrol motor that generates 94PS of power and offers the fuel efficiency of 20.1 km per litre.
However, this speculation about the new 1,242cc VVT petrol mill has created a controversy, as it has been known for quite some time that Maruti Suzuki has been working to develop an all-new 1 litre K10C turbocharged petrol oil burner as an answer to Ford’s very popular 1 litre EcoBoost engine. There are certainly confusions related to this news as it is not sure whether or not the YRA is getting this 1 litre K10C turbo motor, or only the Indian spec YRA is not going to get it. The YRA could also get two petrol engine choices. These confusions will only get cleared with time.
When it comes to the YRA diesel’s powertrain, it will again be the same good old Fiat sourced 1.3 litre DDiS diesel mill. Some reports say that this mill will come in the VGT version generating 90PS, while others claim it will be the same FGT form producing 75PS of power. Maruti Suzuki as usual is all silent regarding the YRA, and until launch, don’t expect any details to come out from the company. Thus, speculated as well as leaked details are the only hope.
