Toyota Vios spotted testing in India; to rival Honda City?
The Vios is Toyota’s answer to the Honda City and Volkswagen Vento. The car has been spotted testing in the country, and you could expect it to be launched sometime next year. The Vios is already on sale in many South East Asian countries, and is slated for its India Debut soon. The car will replace the current Toyota sedan the Etios. The Etios was introduced to rival other sedans, as Toyota did not have any sedan catering to that income segment. The car was extremely basic, with exteriors that wouldn’t exactly make heads turn. The driving dynamics of the car were also not that great. The quality of plastics used, and designing on the inside as well as the exteriors, could’ve been better.
The Toyota Vios is the Etios replacement, and is slated to be positioned below the Corolla. The car has been designed to cater to emerging markets. It would most probably be locally manufactured, which would help in keeping prices competitive. The car will follow the new design methodology of Toyota, which can be seen on the new Corolla and Camry (so it wouldn’t be as much as an eye sore as the Etios). Hopefully even the interiors would be given a fresh upgrade. The Etios was a major success, even though it had many drawbacks. We expect the Toyota Vios to be a success even before its launch considering the image and value brand Toyota has in India.
The Toyota Vios will sport a diesel as well as a petrol engine. The petrol engine will be a 1.5 liter engine producing 107bhp, and the diesel a 1.4 liter motor. You can expect the car to be competitively priced with slightly better designing and finishing as compared to the Etios.
