The 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera has been launched in the UK
Porsche has gone ahead and launched the 2016 Carrera and Carrera S in the UK. Here’s a look at what’s new in this iconic sports car.
The first thing one would notice is the new headlamps on the Porsche Carrera. The new headlamps come with daytime running lights. Even the taillights have been redesigned which have the four-point brake light Porsche motif. The alloys too have been redesigned and now sport slim twin spokes. The engine hood has been given a makeover with the vertical louvers. Over all it screams typical Porsche design and we absolutely love it. The soft bodylines with an aggressive stance sure make a beautiful car.
The 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera comes with full leather interior, sports seats, dual zone automatic climatic control, bi-xenon headlamps, 7-inch touchscreen media player, a sports button, Porsche Active Suspension management (PASM) and Porsche Stability management (PSM) as standard. Also the Porsche anti-theft and tyre pressure monitoring system comes included in the standard package.
Under the hood
The only thing kept in mind while rethinking the engine was, how to make the car faster and efficient at the same time. This is the first time a twin turbo-charged, in-line six cylinder has been used. This not only makes the 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera go faster, but also makes it fuel-efficient at the same time. 3.0 litre engines are used on both cars, albeit in a different state of tune. The engine in the Carrera produces 370PS while the motor in the Carrera S produces 420 PS. This makes the vehicles about 20PS more powerful than its predecessor. The Carrera S has an engine, which is in a higher state of tune. The turbine compressor used in the turbo is modified, and paired with a tuned engine management and exhaust system which makes it produce 50 HP more than the Carrera. The engines pump out 450Nm and 500Nm of torque on the Carrera and Carrera S respectively. Top speed of the Carrera is 295 kmph and 307kmph on the Carrera S (@7500rpm). 0-100 kmph takes about 4.2 Seconds in the Carrera and 3.9 in the S variant.
Fuel efficiency figures are not that bad either. Porsche claims the 911 Carrera delivers about 16.2 kmpl while the Carrera S returns 15.6 kmpl.
Sports Response button
The new Carrera has a special sports button attached to the steering wheel. It’s a knob, which helps the driver to select the mode he wants the car`s settings to be on. The modes available are Normal, Sports, Sports + and individual. Individual is when the driver can tinker with the settings for his desired setting.
Apart from this there are a lot of other technical advancements which make the overall driving experience better.
The 2016 Porsche 911 Carrera has already been launched all over Europe and retails between 76,412 to 94,698 Euros. It would definitely be more expensive when it makes its way into the country.
