Tata Zica – All one needs to know about the upcoming Tata hatchback
Tata Motors is going all the way to make its upcoming vehicle – Zica hatchback a very successful product for the Indian car market. The company signed in football superstar Lionel Messi for the same and for also making its brand name more premium in the eyes of the average Indian car customer. The B-segment hatchback carries the ‘Kite’ codename and it will also spawn a compact sedan in the coming future.
As the Tata Zica will be placed in the Indica territory, many are worried about the fact that will it look anything like the Indica, which the Bolt takes heavy inspiration from? In the looks department, the Tata Zica will not look anything like the Indica. However, it will be based on the Indica’s X0 platform. This means that few of the underpinnings should be carried over from the old model. But the overall rigidity and NVH levels should be tweaked to make it ride better, while being a safer car.
The Tata Zica has been designed using a blank piece of paper. This means that the overall structure will not be similar to any other Tata model that is sold in our country. After seeing various spy shots and test mules, it should look better than the Maruti Suzuki Celerio by quite an extent as well. The honeycomb front grille seems to be carried over from the Bolt and Zest models. On the sides of the grille will be nice looking headlights with chrome highlights that will stretch from the lower half of the front grille.
The side will feature neat straight lines with an increasing lower window line. This helps in giving the vehicle a sportier profile as compared to a simple straight window line. Though not much about the rear has been made public as of now, taillights are expected to look similar as that of the wraparound ones on the Ford Figo to a small extent. The neat set of taillights should give it a more modern profile as against a plain one.
Interior will definitely be inspired from the Bolt and Zest. Elements like the multi-function steering wheel and Harman touchscreen infotainment system should be directly picked from the more expensive Bolt hatch. However, these will only be offered on the top-most variants. Nothing more has been revealed till now.
Two newly-developed engines will power the upcoming Tata hatchback (Zica). These include a 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol (should output around 84 BHP of power and 11 kgm of torque) and a 1.05-litre, three-cylinder diesel (should output around 67 BHP of power and 14 kgm of torque) engine. The naturally aspirated motors should be very fuel efficient, which is one of the reasons why the 1.4-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine loses one cylinder for the Zica. Petrol engine on the other hand will carry a lightweight aluminium construction.
When launched in the country in January 2016, the Tata Zica should carry a starting price of Rs. 3.6 lakhs (ex-showroom). The top end model might be priced around Rs. 6 lakhs (ex-showroom).
