After successfully launching the new Zest compact sedan recently in India, the homegrown auto major, Tata Motors has again started testing the car on the Indian roads. However, this time around the car maker is testing the petrol version of the sedan equipped with the AMT gearbox.

A new prototype of the speculated petrol AMT variant of the Tata Zest has been caught by the spy shutterbugs for the first time in India, and it is speculated to launch soon. A well-known Indian auto portal has splashed the spy pics of the Tata Zest compact sedan’s test prototype which is speculated to be the petrol AMT version of the car. The test mule of the Zest was being tested on the outskirts of the city of Pune. Indian car major Tata Motors launched the brand new Zest in the highly competitive compact sedan segment on 12th of August this year. The latest Zest prototype model was spied along with the usual heavy camouflage and we cannot say for sure if it’s a petrol variant. However, the original publisher of the spy shots managed to get the confirmation from the driver of the vehicle that it is indeed a prototype model of the Zest’s petrol AMT variant.

The Tata Zest, is available in both petrol and diesel variants. Though the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) technology is currently available only on the Zest XMA diesel variant, the company has plans to offer a petrol AMT version as well soon enough. While the Zest petrol version will adopt the new AMT gearbox and come as a new variant, nothing else is going to change in the car including design, features and engine. The new Tata Zest is based on the company’s “DesigNext, DriveNext, ConnectNext” philosophy and has received more than 10,000 bookings since its market launch and currently has a waiting period of up to 4 months. The Tata Zest petrol version is powered by the Revotron 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine generating 90PS of power and 140Nm of torque while the diesel variant is powered by a 1.3L Multijet diesel engine delivering 88.8bhp of power and 200nm of torque.

The Tata Zest competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent and Honda Amaze compact sedans.
