Tata Zest grows in popularity, outshines Honda Amaze in October sales

Tata Zest

Tata Motors has managed to sell 3,524 units of the Zest sedan in October 2014

It is a known fact that, Indian automobile manufacturer Tata Motors has lost some of its market share to its rivals in the past couple of years with dwindling sales and low demand for all its best known cars. Tata’s lack of interest in launching all new cars was one of the primary reasons for the company’s woes. However, now that the Indian carmaker has finally decided to launch many new cars followed by the recently launched Zest, good sales signs are already pleasing Tata Motors.

The Tata Zest compact sedan is the latest entrant in the extremely popular Indian compact sedan segment. The Zest with all its capable features has been well received by the domestic market, and with each passing day its popularity seems to be on the rise. The new car from Tata Motors has also managed to beat the sales figures of the very popular Honda Amaze compact sedan in the month of October 2014, though by a small margin. In the last month, Tata Motors has managed to sell 3,524 units of the Zest sedan as compared against 3,482 units of the Honda Amaze sold in the same month.

The very popular compact sedan segment of India is still ruled by the all-time segment leader Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire. The second leading compact sedan in India, the Hyundai Xcent continues to enjoy its second spot, while the Tata Zest overtook the Honda Amaze to become the new third bestseller in the segment. In the month of October this year, Maruti DZire sold a massive 17,950 units, followed by the Hyundai Xcent that sold a far lesser 4,629 units, followed by the Zest and the Amaze consecutively.

After the low-key response to Tata Motors’ dream car Nano, the company had gone on a long dull sales period. The new Zest is considered as Tata Motors’ savior or comeback car. The Zest launched in August this year, and its sales have been increasing ever since. In the month of August which was Zest’s launch month, its sales figure was 2,671 units, followed by a rise in the sales figure at 3,331 units in the month of September, and then in October its sales number further increased to 3,524 units. It is expected that the Zest’s demands will increase further in the coming months.

The Zest is first among Tata Motors newly developed line of global cars that get new styling, new features and all improved performance, ride and handling. The Tata Zest compact sedan is available in both diesel and petrol versions powered by a Fiat sourced 1.3 litre MultiJet diesel motor and Tata’s newly developed 1.2 litre Revotron petrol mill respectively. The 1.2 litre turbocharged Revotron mill delivers 89bhp of power and 140Nm of torque, while the 1.3 litre diesel motor generates 89bhp and 200Nm. The Tata Zest is also India’s first sedan and diesel car to be equipped with an AMT gearbox.

Tata Motors is all set to launch many new models including the Bolt, Safari Storme facelift, Nano AMT and Kite.
