In the year 2012, Pune based auto manufacturer, Tata Motors launched the Safari Storme with a lot of hopes, but the SUV did not bring in the required sales numbers which it deserved. Tata plans to give the Storme a new lease of life and is testing a more powerful variant of the same (400Nm). Tata has been testing the facelift model of Safari Storme for quite some time now. This confirms that the launch date is not far away.

Though the company has been silent about the same, there were many rumors that the Safari Storme facelift will come with a tweaked engine power output. From the latest spy images taken by a member of Team BHP, it is clear that the updated version of this SUV is going to be more powerful than its existing 2.2-liter VARICOR diesel mill.

The badging along its front fender, which reads VARICOR 400, suggests that this upcoming model will come with a higher state of tune, showcased in the Hexa SUV concept at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this month. The Hexa concept churns out 156 PS of power and 400 NM of torque, higher than the current Safari Storme, which churns out 140 PS and 320 NM of torque. To channelize the power to its wheels, a 5-speed manual and a new 6-speed automatic unit are the expected transmission options. Similar to the current model, the lower variants will be 2WD while the higher trims will sport 4WD.

Talking about the cosmetic upgrades, the updated Tata Safari Storme will come with exterior and interior tweaks. As seen from the spy shots, the model comes donned with a Land Rover styled grille, front bumper and Storme written over the black stripe above the bumper. Interior tweaks include a new instrument console, steering wheel and revised center console. It is also expected that Tata might equip the model with a touch screen infotainment unit as well.

With the love for the first generation Tata Safari still existing in the hearts of die- hard SUV lovers, we certainly hope this new updated Safari Storme would change the mindset of the people in order to make it a decent selling model unlike the current Safari Storme.

The 2016 Safari Storme Facelift is expected to be launched during the second half of this year with a nominal increase in its price. The updated Storme will fight it out with the current segment king “the Scorpio” and the XUV 500.
