Tata Safari Storme facelift launched at Rs. 9.99 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi)
One of the most iconic SUVs to grace Indian roads comes from local car manufacturer Tata Motors. This SUV created a huge fan following when it was first introduced in our country in 1998 and it’s none other than the Safari. If you don’t believe in the previous two lines that you just read, then find someone who has driven any model of the Safari even once and ask them how they felt about the drive. The most common response is that its commanding road presence demands respect and its bullish dimensions keep other motorists away.
However, for the past one decade the Safari has been very disappointing to say the least. Tata left its much loved SUV to simply die out in the cold. While the company was concentrating on capturing an increasing share in the commercial space, it turned a blind eye towards its offerings in the personal vehicle segment, which includes the Safari SUV.
As a result of this, the Safari Storme has lagged behind its competitors in the SUV segment. Manufacturers who weren’t even present in the segment earlier have come and conquered the same, while Tata was daydreaming about god knows what. Anyhow, the company is hoping to make the Safari Storme a capable competitor now and is trying to regain control in the SUV segment once again.
Tata Motors has launched the latest version of the Safari Storme SUV at a starting price of Rs. 9.99 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi). This new model is based on the company’s Horizonext strategy which promises a more engaging and connected drive due to a bump in power.
The SUV is being offered with a host of new connectivity features and also with changes to the exteriors and interiors of the vehicle. It comes with a new multi-function steering wheel which has been picked up from the Zest compact sedan, dual air-conditioning, electronic brake distribution (EBS) and anti-lock braking system (ABS).
Tata has managed to sell more than 1.2 lakhs units of the SUV in the domestic market. The company is also India’s largest automobile company by revenue and had a consolidated sales figure of Rs. 2, 60,734.33 crores in 2014-15.
