Tata Motors has quite a few launches lined up for this year and one of them is the Nexon compact SUV. The production ready model was recently showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. With the launch expected to happen sometime in 2016, Tata continues to extensively test the Nexon, which was spotted this time in Pune by MotorCruze reader Kunal.

The Tata Nexon is based on the X1 platform and will feature an all-new 1.5 litre oil burner as displayed at the Auto Expo. This is contradictory to the initial reports which suggested that the vehicle will be powered by the 1.3 litre Multi-Jet engine.

The petrol variant on the other hand will be powered by the 1.2 litre turbocharged Revotron motor that does duty in the Zest. Coming to the power figures, the diesel motor will produce a healthy 108 bhp and 260 Nm of twist while the petrol motor will bang out 89bhp and 140 Nm. The diesel powered Nexon will be equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Tata Nexon looks like no other Tata product which is its USP. The compact sports utility vehicle is targeted at the younger population and will be equipped with a host of creature comforts. Measuring 3,990 mm in length it will benefit from the lower excise duty and once launched, it will lock horns with the Mahindra TUV300, Ford Ecosport and Maruti Vitara Brezza.
