Tata Motors launches the highly anticipated Bolt hatchback in India tagged at Rs 4.45 lakhs
Tata motors has launched the much-awaited Bolt in India at a price of 4.45 Lakh INR (ex-showroom Delhi). Tata has been making consistent efforts to introduce good quality cars at a competitive price, but has always fallen short at its finished product and after-sales service. The Bolt is the second car to be launched under Tata’s new Horizonext strategy, first being the compact sedan Zest. The Tata Bolt is made to provide world class features at a consumer friendly price, which has always been Tata’s motto.
Tata Motors hopes to reclaim market share, and give competition to the Swift, i20, Polo and Etios Liva. The hatchback segment is the one that sells the most volumes, and is the biggest automobile segment in the country.
Here’s a small report on what one should expect while buying the car.
The Tata Bolt is completely based on its elder brother, the Zest. Big bold front grill with smoked headlamps, projector lights (first in this segment). The car has a smart aggressive stance and is not something we’d expect from a Tata car. The front bumper is well designed, but the chrome bits (as seen on the Zest) have been replaced by black plastic and day-time running LED’s have been replaced by regular fog lamps. The car runs on 15-inch alloys, and is available in 5 exciting colors.
The side profile of the Tata Bolt is very similar to the Indica Vista, as it follows the similar tall-boy design philosophy. The rear end of the car has sporty small tail lights. The blacked out C-Pillar and mounted spoiler add to its sporty appeal. The rear bumper has been designed to look like a diffuser and the boot has been sculpted to house the number plate.
Once you sit inside the Bolt, you understand how serious Tata is with its new strategy. The interiors are so well designed, a regular Tata consumer would be surprised. A fabulous looking dashboard completed with superior looking materials with an amazing finish. The car sports a new smaller 3-spoke steering wheel, which looks amazing and has an even better feel. The seats are designed to provide amazing support and the cabin space of the car does not feel cramped up like the Swift.
The speedometer sports a white backlight and has a sporty design, displaying key information in a smart way. The highlight however is the Harman infotainment system. A touch screen system with 8 speakers, along with voice recognition, Bluetooth, and Navigation (first in its class, not even launched on the Zest). The only downside is that the boot is extremely small, providing only 210 liters of space.
The Tata Bolt will get petrol as well as diesel engines. The new engine developed by Tata is the 1.2 liter Revotron petrol that produces 90PS power and 140Nm of torque, while the Quadra jet diesel is a 1.3 liter making 75PS power and 190Nm of torque. Both the engines are paired to a 5-speed manual, with hopefully an auto box launching soon.
