Tata Bolt Sport debuts at 2016 Auto expo; packs 120 HP of power under the hood
The eye catching Tata Bolt Sport made its Indian debut at the 2016 Auto Expo and was first showcased at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. Tata’s hot hatchback garnered a lot of attention at the event which witnessed more than 6 lakh visitors over a period of one week. The word ‘Bolt’ has been dropped from the name and it is now christened as Tata Sport. It will make a debut under the Indian auto major’s new performance brand which will be introduced at the end of 2016 in India. The performance-oriented Sport has been developed jointly by Tata Motors and Coimbatore based Jayem Automotive. Jayem Automotive is owned by a former racer, which makes this partnership to develop performance cars an interesting one.
Tata Sport gets some cosmetic changes which include 17-inch alloy wheels, new grille, side skirts, projector headlamps, scoops on fenders, diffuser styled rear bumpers and a new air dam. The interiors look super hot with red detailed sassy black leather and contrast stitching and accents, sport pedal extension, Harman touch-screen infotainment system, sunroof, SMS readout, steering wheel wrapped in leather and much more. Highlighting the safety features, the vehicle is equipped with ABS, dual airbags, speed-dependent volume control and corner stability control. Highlighting the new performance brand, the souped-up Bolt carries the ‘S’ logo unlike other vehicles from Tata Motors which wear the company’s badge.
Bolt Sport is expected to be offered at a price range of Rs. 5.5 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh (ex-showroom). The Sport will continue to get its power from the tried and tested Revotron 1.2-L petrol engine which has been tuned to produce more power. Coupled with the same 5-speed manual gearbox that does duty in the Bolt hatchback, the Sport will now bang out 120 HP of power and 170 Nm of peak torque. The vehicle gets a high-flow exhaust system, large turbocharger, remapped ECU and the gear ratios have been modified to extract more performance from the car. The Bolt Sport is a step in the right direction for Tata Motors and will give some tough competition to the likes of Polo GT TSI and the Punto Abarth when it is launched in the country.
