Suzuki to launch four new scooters
The Indian two-wheeler subsidiary of the Japanese auto manufacturer, Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd (SMIL), is successfully standing at the fourth position in terms of the biggest scooter brand following Honda, Hero Motor and of course, TVS. As per the volume strategy, the leading manufacturing company is successfully stepping on the gas both to expand the volumes of scooter along with improving its comparatively smaller motorcycle presence. The two-wheeler arm of the Japanese company will introduce four new scooters out of the six new launches this year.
As per reports Suzuki Motorcycle India Ltd (SMIL)’s executive VP, Atul Gupta further explained the company’s plan by disclosing its aim of achieving 7.5 lakh units in production and sales in around 3 years. It should be a blend of 65% scooter and 35% motorcycle sales. At present, the mix is 80% in favor of scooters. Currently, SMIL holds around 12% share of the whole scooter market. In addition to that, the leading two-wheeler manufacturer has the record of selling around 3.5 lakh scooters in one year.
The company is expecting the volumes to rise up to 4.5-5 lakh units in another two years. With the addition of new motorcycle products to its portfolio, the share of bike sales is expected to rise. As of now, the Japanese auto company has a constant focus on expanding and enlarging its portfolio. The company has launched ‘Let” and will also have many variants of its `Access` and ‘Swish’ scooters. As per reports the company will be sticking to the 100-125 cc segments which are its family usage segment.
The success of Scooter India and Honda Motorcycle has given a big boost to the entire scooter market. Analyst’s estimate that the scooter market has grown from 14% to 25% of the whole two-wheeler market. Credit goes to Honda for increasing the number of scooters in the market.
