Automatic manual transmission is now the most desirable feature any car would simply love to have. It enhances the desirability of the vehicle in the market due to the ease of driving provided by the same.

Today we compare the cheapest AMT cars available in the Indian market to see which one is better, the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 AMT and the Tata GenX Nano AMT. The Alto K10 is older of the two here as the GenX Nano has been recently introduced in the market, displacing the first to become India’s cheapest automatic car.

While talking about the exteriors, the Alto K10 was updated only last year, but received many changes over its predecessor mainly on the front and rear of the car. The GenX Nano carries the same characteristics as its previous model, but gets newly designed front and rear bumpers. The Alto K10 measures 3545 mm in length, 1490 mm in width and 1475 mm in height, while the GenX Nano measures 3099 mm in length, 1495 mm in width and 1652 mm in height.

The Alto K10 weighs 755 kgs, while the Nano weighs a little more at 765 kgs. Coming to the powertrains, the Alto K10 is powered by a 998 cc, 3-cylinder engine that generates 68PS of power at 6000 RPM and 90 Nm of torque at 3500 RPM. It can hit the 100 km/hr mark from standstill in 17.5 seconds and has a power to weight ratio of 90.06 PS/tonne. The Genx Nano gets a smaller 624 cc 2-cylinder engine that makes 38.19 PS of power at 5500 RPM and 51 Nm of torque at 4000 RPM. Getting from 0 to 100 km/hr takes a huge 32.2 seconds and the car has a power to weight ratio of 49.92 PS/tonne.

Another determining factor for purchasing a new car is fuel efficiency. The Alto K10 delivers 24.07 km/l, while the GenX Nano delivers 21.9 km/l respectively. The latter however has a higher ground clearance of 180 mm as compared to 160 mm of the first.

On the pricing front, the GenX Nano is cheaper than the Alto K10. The smaller hatchback is priced at Rs. 3.13 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai), while the latter is priced at Rs. 4.22 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
