Skoda VisionS concept sketches out, precursor of Kodiak SUV
Set to officailly debut at the 2016 Genenva Motor Show, the Skoda Vision S concept will spawn a new SUV from the Czech carmaker.
As we all know, Skoda is one manufacturer that is not known for its SUVs. However, the company is moving towards changing the same with its new upcoming SUV that will most likely be called Kodiak. Sketches of the utility vehicle’s concept have just been revealed. Called the VisionS concept, it will be making its international debut at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show next month.
To be built on Volkswagen’s renowned MQB platform that forms the basis of a large portfolio of vehicles, production for the first 6-seater vehicle from Skoda will commence from 2017 onwards. On the visual domain, it carries the same simple elegant lines and creases that forms the basis of fellow Skoda’s as well. The front has sharp headlights and a long airdam. Its roofline is sloping towards the rear thereby giving a sporty profile. The rear gets a similar design as the front other than two exhaust pipes placed at opposite ends.
Measuring 4700mm in length, 1910mm in width and 1680m in height, these proportions means that the Skoda VisionS concept will be similar to the Hyundai Santa Fe in terms of dimensions. As it is still in its concept stage only, nothing can be said about its interiors. However, it is expected to be as luxurious as the Superb, if not better.
Mechanically, it is expected to derive power from the same four-cylinder engine that also powers the Superb. Skoda is expected to launch the Kodiak in India, but this will only happen after the Tiguan makes its debut here. The Skoda Kodiak will lock horns with premium SUVs including the likes of the 2016 Toyota Fortuner, 2016 Ford Endeavour, 2016 Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Hyundai Santa Fe and the Honda CR-V. With so many capable SUVs to launch soon in India, it is going to be one hell of a competition for sure.
