The Skoda Kodiaq has been under development from a significantly longer time, but looks like the new SUV from Skoda has finally come out of its development phases. The Czech automaker has officially released a teaser image of the Kodiaq SUV, and has also confirmed that it will make its world premiere in the second half of 2016. Meanwhile, Skoda Kodiaq sales will start from early next year, with Europe being its first market.
If you find the name to be a bit awkward, let’s tell you where it is sourced from. This new Skoda SUV is named after a breed of Alaskan Bear named Kodiack, while the spelling has been fiddled with in order to suit the native dialect.
The Skoda Kodiaq SUV is basically the manufacturer’s production model of the VW CrossBlue concept. As a result, it underpins the famous MQB platform of the Volkswagen Group, and measures 4.7-metres in length. In terms of looks, the Kodiaq will straightaway drive inspiration from the Vision S Concept, which was recently showcased at this year’s Geneva Motor Show. As a result, the Kodiaq exteriors will comprise of the company`s signature grille, slimmer headlight assemblies, and clearly defined character lines.
The Skoda Kodiaq`s engine options on offer will include a turbocharged TSI petrol with direct injection, and a turbocharged TDI diesel engine. These engines will be mated to a manual transmission, while a Dual Sequential Gearbox (DSG) will also be on offer.
