Skoda Kodiaq to launch in India on October 4

India bound Skoda Kodiaq front

Skoda India will be launching its first-ever 7-seater SUV – the Kodiaq, in the country on October 4, 2017. This new entrant is expected to be the costliest car from Skoda available in India. It will thus displace the Superb sedan as the Czech automaker’s flagship product in India.

Interestingly, the Kodiaq won’t be Skoda’s first SUV offering in India. The company had earlier introduced the Yeti in the country, but it didn’t receive any overwhelming demand. The Yeti was thus discontinued in 2013 due to low sales. However, the Kodiaq is expected to be a lot more popular than the Yeti, as it gets a contemporary SUV-ish styling, as opposed to the Yeti that looked like a large, raised hatchback.

Based on the VW Group’s MQB platform, the Skoda Kodiaq is the first ever 7-seater product from the Czech carmaker. Dimensionally, the Kodiaq measures 4,697 mm in length, 1,882 mm in width and 1,676 mm in height. The SUV’s wheelbase spans over 2,791 mm, thus giving enough space for accommodating three row of seats.

In India, it will likely be available with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder TDI diesel engine that will churn out 143 bhp and 340 Nm of peak torque. This engine is expected to be mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox, while a 6-speed manual unit might also be on offer on the entry-level variants.

Being Skoda’s flagship offering, the Kodiaq will be heavily loaded with features like LED headlamps and tail lights, dual zone automatic climate control, touchscreen infotainment system, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, rear parking camera and cruise control.

Being a full-size SUV, the Skoda Kodiaq will be competing against well-established rivals like the Toyota Fortuner and Ford EcoSport.
