The world is witnessing a surge in electric vehicles and the ongoing Shanghai Auto Show revealed China’s first ever electric supercar, Qiantu K50 Event! Yes, with an exclamation mark in the end as it’s named, the Qiantu K50 Event! The supercar will be launched in the Chinese market in 2016, with prices in the range of 7, 00,000 Yuan or $113,000, quite similar to the price tag of the Tesla Model S in China.
The Qiantu K50 Event! will be based on the CH Auto Event Concept, which made its Beijing debut sometime last year. Qiantu Qiche, which while translating means ‘Future Auto’, will be the company manufacturing the K50 Event! CH Auto, happens to be a major Chinese design and development company and is the largest shareholder of Qiantu Qiche.
At the recent Shanghai Motor Show, in total three cars were showcased by Qiantu Qiche, out of which two standard cars resembled last year’s concept model. The Qiantu K50 Event! is powered by an electric motor which bangs out 400 hp of power and 650 NM of torque, channelizing the power to its rear wheels. The Chinese electric supercar does a 0-100kmph sprint in a mere 5 seconds and has a top whack of 200 kmph. On a full charge it can travel 200km, its curb weight is around 1,685 kilos and it takes about 6 hours to get fully charged.
The gorgeous looking supercar comes with attractive interiors. The all-black theme inside the cabin with analogue instruments, LCD screen in the center console makes the overall interiors very appealing and interesting. At the rear, the electric supercar gets an interesting vent seen just behind the door making the rear profile look sporty as well.
China is the largest car market and the Qiantu K50 Event! being its first home grown electric supercar is an achievement. Once launched in the Chinese market, this high performance sports car is expected to give some serious competition to the Tesla models as well.
