Scoop : Maruti Celerio diesel snapped, launch likely in Nov 2014
As we all know Maruti Suzuki has been working on a new diesel engine that will power the Celerio hatchback as well as the upcoming light commercial vehicle codenamed Y9T. While the launch of the Y9T is some time away, there have been reports that the Celerio diesel is in its final phase of testing and six prototypes have been sent to Japan for the final tests. Pictures of the top end ZDi variant have been snapped recently which gives an indication that the launch is going to happen within the next three months.
The new diesel engine from Maruti is a 793cc unit comprising of two cylinders and capable of pumping out 50 BHP of power. This engine when launched will be the smallest capacity diesel engine available in India. The diesel motor will be paired to a 5 speed manual transmission. There is also a possibility of Maurti offering the Celerio diesel with an AMT unit in the future. When launched in the AMT guise the Celerio diesel will be most affordable diesel automatic hatchback in the country.
As per reports the Celerio diesel will be available in three variants namely LDi, VDi and ZDi with the mid variant (VDi) getting ABS as optional. Most of the features available on the petrol models are likely to get carried over to their diesel counterparts. If priced competitively the Celerio diesel will surely set the sales charts on fire.
