In order to grab a sizeable market share in the volumes segment, Renault India is preparing to unveil its low cost small car, known as the Renault Kayou (Renault XBA) in the Indian market in Chennai on May 20th, 2015. To promote the company’s most affordable car, the French automaker recently released the first video revealing its marketing tagline ‘Live for More’.
This video mainly shows Mumbai’s two most prominent landmarks – Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus and the beautiful Bandra-Worli Sea link. Adding to this, the company has also featured many Indian youngsters as the target audience seen chilling out together.
According to reports, the company is building this affordable small car at RNTBCI (Renault Nissan Technology Business Development Centre India). While the video reveals no actual image of the vehicle, from the previous spy images, one can expect the vehicle to come with a crossover like design language attached with a ‘compact’ prefix.
To make the vehicle really affordable, the company has even adopted cost-cutting measures like – Skinny tires, single wiper, low cost black rear view mirror and going inside the cabin, usage of inexpensive upholstery. Its major USP will be the space inside the cabin, apart from pricing. Based on the CMF-A Modular platform (underpins the Datsun Redi-Go production model); the Renault Kayou would come powered by the new 800 cc, 3-cylinder petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Like the production model, even this engine is being built at RNTBCI. Along with the petrol mill, even an AMT transmission is expected to be offered at the later stage. The Renault Kayou will not be offered with a diesel engine.
While the Kayou will be unveiled on May 20th, it is expected to be priced between Rs 3-4 lakhs (ex-Showroom) which is sure to attract many buyers while at the same time it will give tough competition to the Tata Nano variants, Maruti Alto, Datsun Redi-Go and Hyundai Eon.
