Renault unveils the Indian spec “Lodgy”; expected to be launched in 2015
Renault has put its foot in every possible segment in the Indian car market. Recently it announced that it would introduce the Lodgy MPV in the Indian car market in 2015. The Lodgy is sold in the European market under the Dacia badge, which happens to be a subsidy of Renault. The Duster, which was the game changer for Renault, was also picked up from Dacia’s portfolio.
The Indian-spec model will be slightly changed to make it more comfortable on the pocket and make it competitively priced. It will be a seven-seater MPV, which would comfortably take on the likes of the Honda Mobilio and Maruti’s Ertiga. Renault holds the distinction of being the inventor of the MPV, with the Renault Espace launched in Europe three decades ago, and its expertise will be reflected in its new product offering for India: An MPV called “The Renault Lodgy”, the company said in a press release.
The Renault Lodgy MPV looks simple, with plain lines and chrome accents all over. The rear end of the car looks rather bland and could’ve used some better designing. The interior trim will be similar to that of the Duster.
No mention of the engine specs has been made. According to reports online, it will sport the 1.5 litre K9K diesel engine which does duty on the Fluence and Duster which churns out 110PS and 240 Nm of torque.
If priced right this car could give cars like the Ertiga, Mobilio and even the bigger segment cars like the Innova a run for their money. Only thing that could keep the masses away is the bad fittings as complaints were reported for the Duster. We expect Renault to price the Lodgy between Rs 8 – 12 lakhs.
