Renault planing to launch three utility vehicles to rival Mahindra
Renault has come to realise that it is best to work on its strengths in India, which can definitely be attributed to the utility segment. The Duster went on to become a major success for the company and is the sole reason Renault sits as a well-known car brand in the country. The recently launched Kwid hatchback has also got off to a very good start thanks to its SUV-like styling as well.
The French car manufacturer has now set its sights on taking on popular utility manufacturer Mahindra. Renault is hoping to give the established Indian car maker a good fight by launching vehicles in the UV segment. A total of three new vehicles seem to be in the developmental stages for Renault.
First of these vehicles is a compact SUV which will give newly launched Mahindra TUV300 a good fight. It will be placed under the Duster in the Renault India portfolio. The second will be a compact MPV that will sit under the Lodgy. Both the aforementioned models will be based on the CMF-A platform which also forms the basis for the new Kwid. Prices of these two vehicles will range between Rs. 5-10 lakh (ex-showroom) and are expected to launch before 2017.
Next is an SUV which will be capable to seat seven full grown adults. Its primary rival will be the Mahindra XUV500, but it will also lock horns with the upcoming Honda BR-V and Tata Hexa. Codenamed as HHA, it will look very similar to the internationally acclaimed Captur. After the new models are launched in India, Renault will plan to bring in the next generation Duster SUV in 2018.
Given the company’s experience in the utility vehicle segment, Renault is expected to do a good job will all the new vehicles, in line with its objective of garnering a 5 percent market share here in India.
