Renault Lodgy to get Easy-R AMT and a new base variant

Renault Lodgy

Renault has been in the news for the past few months, with the launch of the facelifted version of its popular Duster with an automatic transmission variant. NDTV Auto now reports that the French carmaker is planning to launch the Lodgy with the Easy-R AMT transmission. A new base variant of the MPV is also on the cards.

Renault Lodgy has not been able to garner much sales, with the model struggling to gain traction in the highly competitive Indian market. Toyota has stopped production of the 1st generation Innova and the new Innova Crysta is expected to be priced higher than the outgoing model. This will give Renault Lodgy some room to play with more variants and create some demand. Since the Maruti Ertiga, Honda Mobilio, and Toyota Innova are not offered with an automatic option, the Easy-R AMT lodgy will give Renault an edge over its rivals. The lodgy comes with two engine options both in diesel trims only. It includes a smaller 1.5L dCi engine that produces 83bhp of power and a larger 108 bhp version.

The Renault Lodgy is based on the same platform as the facelifted Duster however with changes to the design and suspension setup. The automatic variant of the lodgy would be priced approximately Rs.50000 more than the already existing model and is expected to return a mileage of 20km/l. Also, with this AMT version the Renault Lodgy would be the first 7-seater people mover to come with an automatic transmission.

In addition to this, Renault would also be launching a base trim of the Lodgy in the coming months so as to focus on the commercial vehicle segment. The base variant would be priced lower than the normal variants i.e. below INR 8.5 lakhs, expect some cost cutting and omission of certain features. With all these tweaks and enhancements to the Lodgy, the company is hoping to revive the MPV`s fortunes.
