Renault Lodgy MPV India launch confirmed for 2015
The Indian MPV market is all set to grow after the success of Maruti`s Ertiga and Honda`s Mobilio. French car maker Renault`s next product for the Indian market will be the Lodgy MPV. After finding success with the Duster in the Indian market Renault plans to expand its product portfolio to boost its sales.
The Renault Lodgy MPV has been spotted testing many times in India, and it has been officially revealed that Renault India is readying its Lodgy MPV to be launched in the Indian market by next year, as per a statement made by the company’s CEO & MD Sumit Sawhne. Renault India will also be launching the new AWD (All Wheel Drive) variant of the Duster SUV this month which will further boost its sales as the company believes the AWD variant will appeal to the off-roading enthusiasts.
Renault India also believes that their market share in the Indian market will increase to 5% from its current 2.6% around 2016-17. Renault is also providing easy financing and schemes to attract more sales from the Indian market. The upcoming India bound Renault Lodgy will get a new India specific front grille, which will be probably more stylish with chrome garnishes. The cabin of the MPV was also partly spied and is said to be sharing some parts with the Duster SUV to save costs. It will get beige dashboard inserts, AC vents and chrome inserts similar to the Duster.
Under the hood, the Renault Lodgy MPV is likely to get the Duster’s mechanical specs as well. It is expected to be powered by a K9K turbo diesel and 1.6 liter petrol engine. The K9K turbo diesel motor is offered in India in two states of tunes – 85PS and 110PS which should offer enough power to the Lodgy MPV to tackle Indian roads. The Renault Lodgy will be measuring 4.5 meters in length which is similar to that of the Indian MPV segment leader Toyota Innova, but longer than the Honda Mobilio and the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga.
The Lodgy will be mostly Dacia based where its exterior design is concerned, but on the inside it will be more similar to the Duster. It will get an infotainment system along with a 7-inch touchscreen with auxiliary and Bluetooth capabilities. Its dashboard is expected to be of premium quality with nice fit and finish similar to the new Duster model. The new upcoming Renault Lodgy MPV is expected to be priced between Rs. 7 -11 lakhs. The Lodgy MPV will surely make the India MPV market more competitive, but only time will tell if it can pose to be a threat to the highly popular Toyota Innova.
