Renault Kwid to get 1.0 L petrol motor, AMT option on the cards
Renault India`s next product for the Indian market is the Kwid small car which is expected to be launched in the country by the end of this year. The Kwid resembles its elder brother the Duster and looks like a hatchback on stilts, with its high ground clearance and SUV like stance. It has received quite a good response and the French auto manufacturer plans to keep updating the Kwid every few months to keep the freshness quotient of the product intact.
Renault is silently working on a more powerful 1.0 litre motor for the Kwid which will power the small car, around six to seven months after the 800cc version is launched. This motor will equip the sportier version of the Kwid and will be coupled to a manual as well as an AMT transmission. As per reports the all-new AMT gearbox is being developed by Renault`s in-house team to keep the pricing low.
The Renault Kwid is based on the company`s CMF-A platform which will underpin other products from the Nissan, Datsun and Renault stable. The Kwid is expected to be priced between Rs 3 – 4 lakh which makes it an attractive proposition. This has been achieved by using 97 percent local content. When launched the Renault Kwid will lock horns with the Maruti Alto K10.
