So the long awaited April 2016 Car Sales figures are now out, and we can’t help but notice the consistent sales growth that is being encountered by the latest A-Segment entrant – the Renault Kwid. The Kwid managed to clock 9,795 unit sales in April 2016, which continues the upward incline that this Renault hatchback has experienced in the first 3 months of this year. Meanwhile, the longtime A-Segment leader and India’s most sold car, the Maruti Alto800, is facing some significant battering by the success run of the Renault Kwid, as the Alto800 managed to sell 16,583 units in April 2016, facing a 23% decline as compared to the same month last year.

Renault sold 7,544 units of the Kwid in February 2016 while Maruti Alto800 suffered a sales decline of 17%, and when the Kwid sold 9,743 units in March 2016, the Alto800 sales declined by 11%. This makes it obvious that while the Renault Kwid`s numbers are increasing every month, the Alto800 isn’t able to attract a sales growth rate.
Moreover, we believe that Kwid sales are bound to increase in the future, as Renault has already ramped up production by introducing a night shift at its plant. Moreover, the French automaker is planning to introduce the new Kwid 1.0L and Kwid 1.0L AMT variants before Diwali 2016, which will further expand the market that the Renault Kwid caters to.

Maruti too is able to gauge the sales decline, and has thus planned a mild facelift of its trusted Alto800, which will be launched in the next few weeks.
