Renault is working hard to make its upcoming product, the Kwid a worthy competitor in the entry level hatchback space. The Kwid impressed everyone when it was showcased sometime back for the first time ever. Its SUV like stance got everyone going gala over its design and the car has gained many admirers as well. It has been spied testing on several occasions and the top end variant is expected to feature all the goodies to make it stand out from the rest of the competition.

This time around, the base variant of the Renault Kwid has been spied testing revealing what it will look like when launched in the country. After looking at the snaps one can easily recognise it to be the base trim thanks to the black bumpers, normal steel wheels and no side body cladding. Renault should be pricing this particular variant just over Rs. 3 lakhs (ex-showroom).

Anyhow, the Kwid will be retailing in India only as of now with its manufacturing being done in the country itself. Based on the CMF-A platform of the Renault-Nissan alliance, the hatchback measures 3.68 meters in length, 1.58 meters in width and has a high ground clearance of 180 mm.

It is driven by an 800cc DOHC three-cylinder motor that churns out 57 BHP of power, thereby making the upcoming hatch the most powerful in its segment. The small engine should also help the Renault Kwid deliver impressive fuel efficiency figures.

Renault has localised the Kwid by as much as 98 percent and it is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 3-4 lakhs (ex-showroom). Renault has done a lot of work on the vehicle giving it many segment first features such as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a fully digital instrument cluster. All of this should make the Kwid a very good proposition and help the French car maker gain a good share in the entry-level segment in India.
