Renault Kaptur to be unveiled in India in August

Renault India has strengthened its foothold in the country with the Kwid hatchback and it is now ready to launch new products and facelifts by the end of 2017. The French carmaker has already confirmed that a new urban crossover in the form of Kaptur will be introduced in India. The Renault Kaptur is said to be similar to the European model and could be christened as Renault Captur (official confirmation yet awaited). In India, the new crossover will be positioned above the Duster as a premium model. The India-spec model will be designed on the Duster’s MO platform and will be longer and wider than its European cousin. The all-new Kaptur is expected to be revealed in August and might be launched in the festive season this year.

The Kaptur will get Duster sourced engine setup and might be equipped with a 1.5-L petrol and a 1.5-L K9K diesel unit that delivers 105 bhp and 108 bhp respectively. The transmission options available will be 5-speed manual, a 5-speed CVT and an AMT gearbox. The FWD (front-wheel drive) and AWD (all-wheel drive) system option will also be on offer. The AWD system will come with 3 driving modes- Lock, AUTO and 2WD and locking differential. The Kaptur looks modern with sporty rear design, pronounced wheel arches, signature badge and V-shaped front grille. The cabin too looks premium with plethora of high-tech features, better quality plastics and soft touch materials.

The India bound Kaptur recently obtained 4 star safety rating in Latin NCAP crash test for adult occupant protection. The standard version of the car was tested that comes fitted with seat belts with pretensioners, ISOFIX system, electronic stability control and four airbags. Please note that it is still unclear that the India-spec version gets these safety fitments as standard. The Renault Kaptur is expected to enjoy much attention owing to its contemporary looks with good road presence, safety on priority, feature loaded cabin, AWD system and a powerful yet fuel efficient engine. The crossover however is expected to be expensive, the cabin will accommodate just 5 adults unlike the 7-seat configuration on offer in international markets.

Renault Kaptur India launch date (expected)

Renault is still in the initial testing stages of the Kaptur. Once the company engineers are confident that the product suits the Indian requirements, they will start the localization process. Localization is essential to keep prices of the Kaptur competitive. Once the supplier and logistics processes are completed, the company will be registering the car with ARAI. All these processes can easily take a year. But a new report on the internet suggests that the Kaptur will be launched in India during Diwali. We will keep you updated on the launch date once we have any official confirmation from the company.

Renault Kaptur Price in India (expected)

Pricing is the key in the Indian market. Having delivered products like the Duster and the Kwid, which are extremely competitive in terms of pricing, Renault India seems to have mastered the art of hitting the sweet spot. Hence, the company is expected to be sensible enough to not place the Kaptur too close to the likes of the Mahindra XUV500, Toyota Innova Crysta, and the upcoming Tata Hexa. However, the Kaptur will surely be offered at a premium over the Duster.
