Porsche launches Macan SUV in India
July 2014 has been a busy month for automobile manufacturers considering the spate of launches happening (both recent and upcoming). The Indian automotive scene seems to have picked up pace considering the lull in the last two years. The latest one to join the bandwagon is Porsche with the launch of its baby SUV Macan in India at a price tag of Rs. 1 crore – Rs 1.1 crore (ex-showroom, Delhi). I was just wondering what “Macan” meant and googled the word which means “Tiger” in Indonesian.
The Macan will be offered in two variants for the Indian market namely Macan Turbo and Macan S. The Macan S will be powered by a 3.0 litre V6 diesel motor that pumps out 258bhp and a massive 580 Nm of torque. Porsche claims a 0-100 km/h dash in just 6.3 seconds and a top whack of 230 km/h. The Macan turbo which is powered by a petrol motor produces 394bhp and 550 Nm of twisting force. The diesel and petrol motors are mated to a 7-speed Porsche dual-clutch automatic transmission.
