Porsche 911 Targa officially launched in India at Rs 1.5 crore
The Porsche 911 is one of the most iconic cars of all time. Even a 100 years later, the 911 won`t look unpleasant. The car has one of the most iconic designs in world automobile history. Everything about the Porsche 911 is perfect, from the design to the power, to the way the car handles on road and on track. The car hits the nail on the head!
The Porsche 911 was first launched in 1963, and till day maintains its name as one of the best sports cars to own. The car was manufactured by Porsche in Germany, and since its introduction has gone through a number of changes. The car has been launched in a number of different styles, along with different engine specifications, in different states of tune!
One of the particular popular models happened to be the Porsche 911 Targa, and Porsche has the American Judicial system to thank for that. Why? You ask. Convertibles were extremely popular in America in the 1960’s and were an integral part of pop culture back then. To make them safer for the public, the Department of transport introduced a law that all cars needed a fixed roll bar. Now as to create a loophole in the law, the Targa model was introduced.
Porsche still produces the Targa, while the other manufacturers stopped years ago. The beautiful piece of art is still available to drive, almost 40 years after it was introduced. The Porsche 911 has been revamped, obviously, since its introduction. It is available in 2 variants, the Targa4, and the Targa 4S. The 4S obviously is the madder one! The 4 is powered by a 3.4 liter flat six cylinder that produces 344bhp. The 4S animal is powered by a mid mounted 3.8 liter flat six that bangs out 394 bhp. All that power is transferred by PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung transmission), which has 7-different gear rations, and decides which is optimum according to the situation.
The “4” means its an all wheel drive, and the car can decide how much torque to transfer to which tyre by itself! Smarty pants Porsche! In case you plan to get one though, the money will disappear from your bank account faster than the car goes from 0-100! The Porsche Targa 4 costs a whopping Rs 1.5 Crore and the 4S Rs 1.78 Crore (ex-showroom, New Delhi), in case you were wondering.
