The popular Suzuki Swift crosses 4 million milestone globally, half of the sales figure comes from India
The Japanese car manufacturer Suzuki Motor Corporation is known for its prowess of making great small cars. Suzuki has many small car models across the globe including the very popular Alto and Swift, the car monikers which are also super successful in India. Suzuki’s Swift hatchback has now achieved the sales milestone of 4 million units in the global market and around half of this sales number has come from India alone.
As per the information that was posted on Suzuki’s official website, the Swift that was launched as a global model first in the year 2004 has reached the cumulative worldwide sales of 4 million units as in August 2014. The Suzuki Swift has reached this huge sales milestone exactly after nine years and nine months ever since it was launched in the global market in 2004.
The company revealed that the Swift has been a great success, especially in the Indian car market, ever since it was first launched in the country back in 2005. The Swift brand has steadily increased its sales in India keeping in line with the Indian auto market expansion as a result of economic growth. The Swift’s popularity in India also grew as the company added the car’s diesel variants and sedan. The company website mentions that out of the total global sales of the Swift`s 4 million units, approximately half the units were sold in the Indian market.
The Swift is sold in India though Suzuki’s Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, which is India’s leading car manufacturer. Currently, the Maruti Suzuki Swift hatchback is the ruler of its segment ever since its first launch. The Swift is offered in both petrol and diesel options and is priced between Rs. 4.42 lakh and Rs. 6.7 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
The Suzuki Swift was first manufactured and offered for sale in Japan back in November 2004. In the year 2005, the production as well as distribution of the car began in China, Hungary and India.
The Swift received a fully revamped all new model in the year 2010, and its production as well as distribution began in Thailand as well in March, 2012.
Suzuki Motor also said that out of the Swift’s total global sales, 19 percent comes from the European market and only 11 percent from the car maker’s home market, Japan.
In June, 2008, the global Suzuki Swift model crossed the milestone of one million units in its cumulative global production, and then in January 2011 the car achieved the global sales milestone of two million units.
In January 2013, the Suzuki Swift had achieved the global sales milestone of three million. Thus, the car’s global popularity and sales are on the rise and more milestones are expected to be crossed soon.
The Swift is currently manufactured in 8 countries across the world and is sold in over 140 countries and regions all over the globe. Maruti Suzuki will be launching the facelifted Swift in India in the next couple of months and it will compete with the likes of Hyundai i20, Volkswagen Polo, Fiat Punto and the Chevrolet Sail.
