Just like sugar is irresistible for ants, the compact SUV segment is equally enticing for Indian customers. Doesn’t matter the variety of models being introduced each year, the insatiable appetite doesn’t seem to end for the compact SUV- a very big reason why every automaker is eyeing this segment. The trend started in the year 2012 with Renault Duster and has been carried on since then by the Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and Hyundai Creta; Maruti Vitara Brezza being the youngest one in this segment will be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo.

Japanese automaker Nissan now plans to introduce a new SUV model- Kicks to the Indian car market, not forgetting the Terrano which already marks its presence in this segment. With Kicks, Nissan aims to offer something more promising which will be superior in terms of design, features and technical aspects. The company however is tight-lipped about its technical information, but it is expected to be fabricated on the V-platform, which is also similar for the Sunny and Micra. Nissan Kicks SUV has already been presented as a concept at 2014 Sao Paulo Motor show and is expected to be unveiled worldwide at the 2016 Olympics in Brazil. Reports suggest that the Kicks compact SUV will make its Indian debut in the second half of 2017.

Nissan Kicks has predominantly been developed for the Latin American and Brazilian markets with combined efforts of Nissan design (NDA) in San Diego and Nissan Design America- Rio (NDA-R). Expected to be offered at an initial price tag of Rs. 7 lakh, the Kicks will be seen fighting it out with the Mahindra TUV300, Ford EcoSport and the yet to-be-launched Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza; the compact SUV however will be ranked below the Terrano. Nissan Kicks Brazilian model is rumoured to be fuelled by a 1.8 L FLEX engine, expect the Indian spec to be powered like the Terrano with the 1.5 L diesel engine. Other changes with respect to design and colour are also expected to suit the local culture.
