Nissan Evalia`s Production Halted in India
The MPV segment in India has witnessed a strong growth in India in the recent times. However, one MPV which has performed badly is the Nissan Evalia. The Evalia was launched in October 2012 and till date only 2412 units of the vehicle have been sold in the country. Nissan even gave the Evalia a couple of facelift`s but even then the product failed to gather any buyers. One of the negative points of the Evalia MPV is its boxy looks and old school styling. But in international markets the MPV which carries the NV200 badge has been doing quite well for itself. The other reason for its failure can also be attributed to its rivals like the Honda Mobilio, Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova which have captured a major share of the MPV market.
As per a recent report on Autocarpro, Nissan India has stopped production of the MPV. The reasons cited by the company for stopping production were that the vehicle`s styling was quite unconventional which resulted in poor sales. Reports suggest that the production has been halted for an indefinite period, while the dealerships and company are trying hard to clear the remaining stock. This will be a challenging task for the company considering the fact that the Evalia isn`t even capable of putting up a decent fight against its competition.
The Japanese auto manufacturer introduced the Evalia in the Indian market to fight it out with the Toyota Innova. Compared to the Innova`s sales the Nissan Evalia pales in comparison. A rebadged version of the Evalia called the Stile was introduced in partnership with Ashok Leyland. It was launched in October 2013 and discontinued in May 2015 of which only 1,154 units were sold.
The decision to stop the production of the Evalia could be Nissan India`s plan to focus on the luxury and compact SUV space where it can start enhancing its portfolio and tap the market to increase its market share in the main stream segments.
