Next generation Honda Acura NSX breaks cover at the 2015 Detroit Motor Show
The Honda Acura NSX has always been one of my dream cars. The number of times I’ve seen the video of Ayrton Senna smashing the car around the Suzuka circuit is unbelievable. When I heard the news of the new NSX being unveiled at the Detroit, the fan boy in me went berserk!
It`s been 25 years since the Acura NSX made its debut. The car was way ahead of its time in terms of build quality and technology. It was the first all-aluminium car and was powered by a V6 monster engine. The new car, which was shown at the Detroit Auto Show, features a space frame design, with an internal frame made of aluminium and ultra high strength steel. A unique casting technique has been used to develop the frame of the vehicle and it’s a first. The suspension too is built using only aluminium. The body of the vehicle has numerous purposeful design cues on the spoilers and air scoops to enhance performance by providing cooling and creating downforce.
There is a twin turbo V6 and three electric motors providing power to the car. Honda says the engine makes about 550 horsepower, enough to keep the Italian supercars on their toes. Transferring the power from the engine to the wheels is a 9-speed dual clutch gearbox, which promises to give quick shifts. Brembo carbon-ceramic brakes provide stopping power to this 550bhp beast. The Acura NSX has a number of different modes for different driving styles. The quite mode only uses the electric motor, while what the sport and sport+ do is pretty much self-explanatory.
The interior of the Acura NSX too has been given attention with traces of aluminium and satin finish leather being used generously. It is said the production spec vehicle will be taller by 0.6 inches, longer by 3.1 inches and wider by and inch. The Acura NSX starts production in Ohio next year and though no official figures have been released, the car should set you back by at least $150,000 (~1, 00, 00,000 INR). I’ve got at least a year and half to save up!
