New Ford Figo hatchback spyshot

The next generation Ford Figo hatchback has started preparing for its market launch in India. Ford India has started testing the next generation model of its Figo hatchback on the Indian roads. The car has recently started its test rounds, and it has been caught for the very first time by the spy shutterbugs. The next generation Ford Figo hatchback has been spotted for the first time by an ardent reader of an automotive site, and the spy shots have gone viral on the internet. The all new Figo’s test prototype was spotted while the car was busy on its test rounds in Pune, Maharashtra.

The next generation Ford Figo hatchback’s production model was recently showcased at the 2014 Sao Paulo Motor Show. This model will eventually replace the ongoing Figo hatch model in India as well, albeit with some India specific alterations to the car. The all new Ford Figo hatchback model is designed and developed based on the new Fiesta sedan’s platform. The car has obviously become more contemporary and stylish than the current model. The car’s interiors have also been revamped.

Under the hood, the all new Ford Figo hatchback is likely to get powered by Ford`s 1.2 litre petrol motor as well as the 1.5 litre DV5 turbocharged diesel mill. It is also being speculated that Ford could also utilize its newly developed 999cc petrol motor that has the capacity to churn out a max power output of 80 bhp, under the hood of the new Figo as an option. This new engine is expected to be a derivative of the much acclaimed 1 litre EcoBoost mill, but this one comes without a turbocharger. In the international car markets, it is already known that the new Figo hatchback model has spawned a new sedan version as well. Thus, the next-generation Figo range will consist of two car body styles globally, namely a hatchback and a sedan.  The Indian car market is also expected to get both the all new Ford Figo hatchback along with its new compact sedan version.

As the hatchback turned compact sedan segment is highly popular, every auto manufacturer wants to grab a share of this segment. Ford is doing a wise thing by bringing its Figo based sedan as well. Post its market launch, the upcoming Ford Figo compact sedan is going to rival with the current and long time segment leader Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire, Hyundai Xcent, Honda Amaze and the recently launched Tata Zest. For the Indian car market, the next generation Ford Figo hatchback and the Figo compact sedan are supposed to be rolled out from the company’s new manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat. Ford is also busy preparing its next generation Endeavour SUV which is expected to have its official market launch in India sometime next year.
