Next-gen Mitsubishi Pajero Sport rendered
The SUV segment in India is largely controlled by the Toyota Fortuner. Though the segment has other very capable offerings like the Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Ford Endeavour, Honda CR-V and others, the Fortuner has been able to derail all the aforementioned SUVs due to its brand name and bullish off-road looks. Anyhow, most of the SUVs in this segment are due for updates in the Indian market.
Renderings of the next generation Mitsubishi Pajero Sport have surfaced on the internet. The new model is production ready and is due to make its debut later this year. The styling cues have been picked up from the GR-HEV concept which Mitsubishi debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show.
Coming to the design itself, the overall SUV bears a lot of similarity with the Outlander SUV. At the front, the updated Pajero Sport gets sharper headlights which neatly integrates into the front grille and a bold looking front bumper which houses a huge central air dam, scuff plate and fog lamps. The Outlander like design is most evident through the side profile. The windows seem to get a chrome garnish on the bottom side. The SUV also gets a side-board and typical Pajero like huge wheel arches. At the rear, the SUV gets a faux scuff plate on the rear bumper, chrome garnish over the number plate housing and new tail lights that carry a unique design.
The next generation Pajero Sport will most likely be powered by a 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo-diesel engine that will churn out around 178 BHP and 43.85 kgm of torque. Power will be driven to all four wheels through a six-speed manual and automatic transmission.
No tentative date of launch for the new Pajero Sport is available at the moment. It is also not known whether the current generation Pajero Sport will be sold alongside the upcoming model or not, much like what happened with the old model Pajero in India for a while.
