New Volvo XC90 India premiere on May 12
Volvo has not been able to replicate the kind of success it has seen in international markets in the country. Therefore, the Swedish auto manufacturer has set aggressive sales targets for FY15. Last month the petrol variant of the V40 Cross Country was launched in India, and the company plans to introduce new models during this month. The Volvo XC90 will make its Indian debut on May 12.
Initially Volvo planned a September launch for the luxury SUV, but the date was preponed due to customer demand. Two variants of the 2015 XC90 will hit the Indian shores namely – Momentum and Inscription. Both these models will differ in terms of features and exterior styling. The Momentum which is the lower spec is enabled with a panoramic sunroof, keyless entry, cornering headlamps, reversing camera and a boot lid which can be operated electronically.
Inside the cabin it is equipped with features like tyre pressure indicator, navigation system and a 12.3 inch central console. The Inscription which is the higher spec gets more equipment in the form of dual integrated headlamps, exclusive front grille, Bowers and Wilkins music system, leather dashboard and heads up display.
Powering both these SUV`s is the new turbocharged diesel powertrain (D5) from Volvo which bangs out 228 PS of power and 470 Nm of twisting force coupled to an eight-speed autobox. Currently Volvo India`s line-up consists of the V40 Cross Country, S60, S80, XC60 and the XC90 (previous generation). When launched the new Volvo XC90 will rival the likes of the Mecedes GL-Class, BMW X5 and the Audi Q7. Expect it to be priced between Rs 65-70 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
