New Volvo S90 revealed, coming soon to India
Volvo recently unveiled the highly anticipated new S90 luxury sedan prior to its public reveal at the oncoming Detroit Motor Show in January 2016. The company is planning to bring the vehicle to India at the same time as other international markets and the S90 will find itself replacing the S80 sedan in our country.
Built on Volvo’s new Scalable Platform Architecture, the S90 looks like a very capable sedan that can give rivals like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, Audi A6 and BMW 5-Series some much needed competition. But because this is a Volvo car, we have to start by mentioning its safety features. These include the company’s new City Safety System that detects when an animal comes in front of the vehicle and applies the brakes on its own. There is also a Pilot Assist semi-autonomous driving feature that enables the car to stick to one path while driving on the highway on speeds of up to 80 miles per hour.
The new Volvo S90 has a lot going in its favour to make it a very good seller for the Swedish car maker. It has a very long wheelbase that is further benefitted by a very premium design. Front design looks very similar to the XC90, which is its SUV counterpart. Hammer shaped LED DRLs at the front looks killer along with a uniquely designed front bumper. Side profile sees stylish 8-spoke alloy wheels and a coupe like sloping roofline. Rear end has futuristic looking C-shaped LED taillights that sit beautifully on a sculpted boot lid.
Interiors are very premium like the new generation XC90. Volvo has used loads of natural materials like wood. There is an impressive touchscreen infotainment system as well that displays all of the car’s details other than the usual audio system and satellite navigation. The company promises that the S90 takes luxury of premium cars to an all-new level.
Volvo also states that the S90 is a huge leap ahead in terms of ride, performance and driving dynamics. The Volvo driving experience has been redesigned from ground up to offer engaging comfort, control and precision driving.
The S90 is expected to be brought to India with the 2.0-litre diesel engine in either the D4 or D5 variant. The D4 variant produces 188 BHP of power, while the more powerful D5 produces 232 BHP. However, the top-end Inscription variant will most likely come first. Prices for the new S90 in India is expected to start from around Rs. 40-45 lakhs (ex-showroom).
