New Suzuki Swift concept to be showcased at upcoming Tokyo Motor Show
The Maruti Suzuki Swift can easily be regarded as one of the most favourite hatchbacks in the country. Carrying a big fan following thanks to its sporty looks and very fun to drive characteristics, the Swift has always been among the top 10 best-selling vehicles in our country every month. The Japanese car maker will soon be updating the popular hatchback in the international market.
Concept of the new model will most likely be unveiled at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show this year. The next generation Suzuki Swift is expected to be similar to the outgoing model on the design front and will be an evolutionary product rather than a revolutionary one.
On the mechanical front, the next gen model will derive power from the company’s new 1.4-litre turbo-petrol Boosterjet engine in the international market. The same engine was unveiled with the China specific SX4 and it will find its way to more Suzuki products in the coming future as well. With the 1.4-litre engine, Suzuki might also launch the recently unveiled SHVS mild hybrid system. A new twin-clutch gearbox may also come mated to the new engine option.
For the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki recently confirmed that the new Suzuki Swift will be equipped with the 1.0-litre turbo-petrol Boosterjet motor, in addition to the All Grip AWD system. A Sport mode is expected to be featured, which will make the hatch run on 4WD when moving in a straight line, convert to forward wheel drive when turning and switch back to 4WD when the turn has been made/completed.
The production spec model of the next-gen Swift is expected to break cover at next year’s Geneva Motor Show in Switzerland and the vehicle is expected to carry forward the current model’s fame pretty capably given that it will carry the ‘Swift’ nameplate.
