New Skoda Superb coming to India early next year
Skoda’s Superb has been a popular model not only in India but in international markets also possessing killer looks, an extravagant cabin stuffed with creature comforts and a robust engine line-up. A couple of months ago, Skoda launched the new version of the premium saloon in the international markets and is planning to bring the updated version to India early next year. In fact the company will also officially exhibit the new Superb model at the upcoming 2016 Auto Expo slated to start early next year.
The new Skoda Superb is conceived on VW’s MQB platform that also underpins cars like the VW Passat and Audi A4. The wheelbase has been increased by 80mm, which makes the cabin even bigger than the previous generation model. There is a substantial reduction in overall weight; the vehicle now weighs 75 kg lighter. Tweaks made to the exteriors include strong creases lending an assertive stance to the saloon. Engine bonnet too features two sharp cuts which go well with two neat character lines. Nose gets redesigned butterfly grille flanked by bi-xenon headlamps featuring daytime running lights.
Inside the cabin, the new Skoda Superb will be equipped with features such as park assist with a camera, a panoramic sunroof and a three way adjustable climate control. Besides, Skoda will also bestow as many as eight airbags on the saloon as standard safety equipment.
On the mechanical front the new Superb will be powered by both petrol and diesel engines mated to manual as well as automatic gearboxes. Petrol variants are expected to house a 1.8 litre TSI mill that also serves the Skoda Octavia. Diesel trims are expected to employ the 2.0 litre, TDI turbocharged motor that is currently under question for the emission discrepancy, however it is believed that before the 2016 Skoda Superb is launched in India, the company will take necessary steps to fix the problem.
